Description:Bedford ‘S’ type lorries are pictured transporting Hawker Sea Fury aircraft along Foregate Street, Stafford.

The lorries came from H.M.S. Sanderling, Abottsinch which had acted as a Royal Naval aircraft maintenance and rescue, storage base. The Royal Navy ceased occupation of this base in 1963 and later the site became Glasgow Airport which officially opened in May 1966.

On the left there is a glimpse of the former Bowen’s shoe shop with a large advertisement for Jen shoes. In later years all of the buildings in this scene were demolished as part of a large redevelopment of the area.
