Description:The Palladium Cinema was open between 1912 and 1937, and the site has undergone many changes. In 1790 a theatre was built on the site, and was known as the Theatre Royal by 1859. This building was demolisehd in 1871 and replaced by St. James Hall. Films were shown here by 1910, it then becoming the Palladium. The name was changed to the Lido in 1937.

The cinema burnt down in 1942, but was rebuilt in order to entertain the soldiers from the United States, who were posted at Whittington Barracks during the war.

The building was known as the David Garrick Theatre between 1949 and 1953, but was called the Adelphi when it closed in 1959. In 2003 the building was Wilkinsons Home Stores.
