Date:1869 - 1871 (c.)

Description:Male and female prisoners had always been kept separate, but due to overcrowding a new gaol for females was built in 1852. This allowed the Separate System to be introduced in which it was believed that by keeping prisoners apart the innocent minded would not be influenced by the more corrupt.

At the rear of the building was a laundry in which the women prisoners were put to work.
