Date:10th of October 1914

Description:The Battalion disembarked in Belgium on 6th October and here are moving up to stem the German advance. Included in the group are, Captain JF Vallentin, 2Lt. Archer-Shee, Capt GS Bonner, Capt JSS Durlon, 2Lt HS Bower, Lt DC Evans, 2Lt CEC Bartlett, Lt CF Crousaz, Capt GC Ransford, Capt CH Green, Major AC Buckle, Lt Col RM Ovens, Lt LC Moor-Radford, Major JF Loder Symones, Lt HK Shore, Lt DC Twiss, Lt LF Homes, 2Lt HJ Burke, 2Lt H. Willoughby, Lt G.C. Hume, and 2Lf R.R. Riley.

Captain JF Vallentin was killed at Ypres in the same year and was posthumously awarded the VC for his outstanding bravery. 2Lt. Archer-Shee was the ‘WINSLOW BOY’ who had been court-martialled whilst in the Royal Navy for (allegedly) stealing a postal order. He joined the Regiment at the beginning of the War and was wounded, missing and presumed killed on 31st October 1914.
