Description:Mill Dale is a small hamlet close to the village of Alstonefield, so-named because of the presence of a mill in the area since at least 1282. It stands on the Staffordshire/Derbyshire county boundary and used to be on the main route through from Ashbourne to Alstonefield, with the road crossing the River Dove at the stone double-arched 'Viator's Bridge'. The area is now popular with walkers, and a number of the houses are second or holiday homes. The road in the centre of the picture is the present road to Alstonefield, while heading off to the right is the original road to Alstonefield via Mill Way Lane. The road to the left heads off in the direction of Viator's Bridge and was the original road to Alstonefield. The large house on the left is the former Dovedale Temperance Hotel.
