Description:Gustav Hamel, pioneer aviator is pictured here, second from left, with his 50hp Bleriot monoplane, which he flew at several locations around Staffordshire at specially arranged flying displays. This photograph was taken at Lammascotes, Stafford by A.J. Guy. Gustav Hamel gave the first flying demonstration in Stafford to a large paying audience at Lammascote. The flying display was preceded by a civic reception, presided over by the Mayor of Stafford, Alderman E.W. Taylor.

Hamel was born in Britain in 1889 and learned to fly at the Blériot school at Pau, France in 1910. He disappeared over the English Channel on 23 May 1914.
