Date:18th of October 1913

Description:Gustav Hamel (in front and to right of the propeller) became the first aviator to land a plane in Stone on October 18th 1913. The event was arranged by Evans and Sons Garage. Hamel took off from Lammascotes in Stafford and landed at the cricket ground on Lichfield Road, where this photograph was taken.

Hamels' aircraft was a Bleriot monoplane, which he flew at several locations around Staffordshire at specially arranged flying displays.
