Description:The Burton Aviation week was staged at Bass's Meadow in Meadow Road, Burton.
Paul De Lesseps was the son of the builder of the Suez Canal. De Lesseps flew a Bleriot monoplane at the meeting. On the second day of the meeting, he lost his way during a cross country flight of 32 miles to Lichfield Cathedral and back. De Lesseps eventually landed in a field at Grange Farm, Harleston, near Lichfield. After an overnight stay, De Lesseps headed back towards Burton and managed to lose his way again, this time landing in a field near Nottingham, he finally arrived back in Burton having taken 2 days to complete what should have been a 30 minute flight.
