Description:This view of the far-end of Derby Street shows the area in front of the War Memorial, once known as Sparrow Park. Before the monument was built, a cattle market was held on this ground every fortnight between 1827-1874. The Cattle Market Inn to the left of the memorial was built in 1867 by Thomas Fernihough, although it was not that impressive to look at until 1875, when the building was enlarged and heavily altered.
