Description:Gilbert Charles Wardle was born in 1862, and was one of the fourteen children born to Sir Thomas and his wife Elizabeth. He was their second son, but the first surviving boy, his elder brother Herbert having died at three days old. His first wife was Mary Blanche Challinor, with whom he had a son, John. After Mary's death in 1901 he married Katherine Fearon. They had five children, Thomas, the twins Gilbert and Geoffrey and two daughters, before Katherine died in 1920. Gilbert died in 1943.
