Description:Samuel Ratcliff was born in 1783, the only son of John Ratcliff of the brewing partnership 'Bass & Ratcliff'. He began work for the firm in 1800, probably as a clerk. In later years, together with Michael Thomas Bass and John Gretton, the business, 'Bass, Ratcliff & Gretton' was formed.
Samuel Ratcliff died in 1861.
