Date:19th of July 1919

Description:Crowds of people outside the Picture House cinema decorated for the Peace Celebrations at the end of the First World War. During the day’s events, the Mayor of Stafford, Cllr Joseph Rushton, and the Corporation watched a march past in front of the Shire Hall in Market Square by the 3rd Battalion of the Bedfordshire Regiment. Gaolgate, the Market Square and Greengate Street were decorated with flags of several nations and Venetian style poles supporting bunting over the street.

The Picture House opened on Bridge Street in February 1914. It closed in 1995 and was converted into a pub. The building is now (2022) a J.D. Wetherspoon's pub.
