Description:This view was taken looking north from Market Square to Gaolgate Street in Stafford. In 1992 the town centre became pedestrianised and the A34 was re-routed around the town.

All of the buildings in the picture remain (June 2022) although some have changed use on several occasions. On the extreme left is Wrygges a clothing shop which in later years had various occupants, currently it is occupied by Specsavers Opticians and Audiologists. On the extreme right is the Alliance and Leicester Building Society which later became the Santander Bank.

This photograph was taken by Stafford photographer Tony Boydon.
