Description:Councillor Arthur Swanwick, Chairman of the Stone Urban District Council, is pictured presenting a safe-driving medal to Mr K Smith, at Stone Post Office. In the centre of the group is Mr I Howell, Postmaster. If you recognise anyone else in the photograph, please contact us.

Councillor Swanwick presented safe driving awards to eight drivers at Stone Post Office, where he congratulated the men and paid tribute to their driving skill saying that in the last 12 months they had travelled over 83,000 miles without being involved in any accidents. He added that he would like to thank the postmen for bringing the mail in the winter travelling along ice-bound country roads to reach Hilderstone, Swynnerton and other outlying districts.

Mr K Smith was presented with a third bar to a five year medal, Mr W F H Warrilow with a third bar to a five year medal, Mr J Barraclough with a five year medal and Mr J R Fallows with a five year medal. Diplomas were presented to Mr R J Ratcliffe (third year), Mr F Horne (second year), Mr F G Webb (second year) and Mr G E Marson (first year). After the presentations Councillor Swanwick inspected the sorting office and the telephone exchange.
