Date:23rd of September 1955

Description:To mark the golden jubilee of the founding of the Association of National and Local Government Officers’ (NALGO), a bowls match was arranged by the Stone branch of the Association, in which members of one team were dressed in costumes of 1905, the year the Association was formed. The “Edwardians” in the picture are: Mr A Holmes, Miss I Holmes, Mr R L Banks, Mrs D E Oldham, Mrs I Bloor, Mr E J Warrilow and Mr C Gaskin who transported them appropriately enough in the 1901 Sunbeam-Mabley of John Joules and Sons.

The bowls match was played at Stonefield Park on Friday 23 September. The “Edwardians” of 1905 contrasted vividly with the jeans and sweaters of the “Teddy Boys” team of 1955. The “Edwardians” defeated the “Teddy Boys” in the bowls match by two games to one. The characters were members of the Stone branch of the Association.

The teams were:-
1905: Miss I Holmes, Mrs P Bloor, Mrs D E Oldham, Mr R L Banks, Mr A Holmes and Mr E J Warrilow.
1955: Miss K Lamsdale, Miss J Astbury, Mrs V J B Chase, Mr C W L Belcher, Mr J West and Mr W Hawkes.

This photograph was published in the Stone Guardian on Saturday 1 October 1955.
