Description:A view of the the landscape park and lake, known as the Pool, to the south of Chillington Hall which were designed by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown during the 1760s for Thomas Giffard the elder.

James Paine designed the stone bridge which stands at the junction of the Pool and the Canal and is named after its designer. He described the Pool as follows: “In this park is confessedly one of the finest pieces of water, within an inclosure, that this kingdom produces: the verges of which are bounded by fine plantations, intermixed with groves of venerable stately oaks”.
