At a short ceremony at Eccleshall Secondary Modern School, Mr A Bough presented the John Joule and Son Challenge Cup to John Hawkins, Captain of the Eccleshall Youth Club Athletic team, which won the trophy at the first annual sports of the Stone and District Youth Leaders Council. Mr Bough also presented county badges and certificates for athletics to Geoffrey Ward, Julia Fitzgerald and Geoffrey Wood. Afterwards there was a social evening attended by about 60 members. Among those present were the Leaders, Mr and Mrs F D Wood, Mr J P Leighton (Area Youth Organiser) and Mr F J Wood (Inspector).
