Description:Day trippers in a car parked on Blore Pastures near Ilam, with Bunster Hill, Thorpe Cloud and the entrance to Dovedale in the background. Looking north.
The car is a Ford model ‘Y’ saloon (often remembered as the ‘Ford Eight’). It was the first Ford specifically designed for markets outside the United States of America, replacing the Model ‘A’ in Europe. It was powered by a 933 cc, 8 HP Ford sidevalve engine and was in production in England from 1932 until September 1937. Between 1932 and 1933, 34,000 were produced worldwide, and 136,000 produced between 1933 and 1937. Around 17000 Model 'Y's were manufactured in England.
