Description:The main entrance gates to the park are on Victoria Park Road and were made by William Durose, an art metal worker from Tunstall. He produced a pair of elaborate wrought-iron carriage gates with square stone pilars decorated with panels, wreaths and urn finials. The carriage gates are flanked by a pair of similar wrought-iron pedestrian gates with another pair of identical stone pillars. The gates were commissioned by John Nash Peake, a prominent Tunstall tile manufacturer, in 1904. The inscription over the gates reads "Floreat....In memory of Thomas Peake by His Children AD1904... Tunestal".

Work on Victoria Park began in June 1897 to designs drawn up by architect Absolom Reade Wood, Surveyor for Tunstall Urban District Council. The boating lake was constructed in 1903-1904, and bowling greens, tennis courts and a pavilion were built in 1904. The Adams Clock Tower was added in 1907 and the opening of the ornamental gates on 18 June 1908 marked the formal opening of the park. A bandstand was added in 1909 and the Floral Hall completed in 1911.
