Description:The RAOB Orphanage on Walsall Wood Road, Aldridge was opened in 1904 by the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (Grand Lodge of England), a fraternal organisation founded in 1822. It had space for 40 orphans and children ‘beyond their parents’ control’. An extension built in 1912 made room for another 60 children and the orphanage was extended again in 1921.

By 1939 it was run by Barnardos as Druids Heath School for boys with special needs. It underwent further changes in name and management until it closed in 1988 and was demolished. The site is now occupied by housing.

This postcard was published by Ballinger and Dean of Walsall and was franked on 30 November 1907.
