Description:A group of trainee coal miners underground at the Kemball Pit which was situated off Grove Road, Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent.

Kemball was owned by the Stafford Coal and Iron Company and mined coal and ironstone. It operated as a training pit for "Bevan Boys" in the 1940s and later, after closure in 1963, as a surface training centre. Training finished in 1989. The land was cleared as part of the A50 road development and the colliery site is now a hotel.
