Description:The Earl and Countess of Shrewsbury are pictured in the Great Hall at Ingestre Hall, with their second son, Paul Alexander Anthony Bueno Chetwynd-Talbot, after the christening ceremony held at the estate church of St. Mary’s, Ingestre on Monday 27 January 1958.
This was the sixth child of Lord and Lady Shrewsbury. The infant was endowed with five Godparents at the service conducted by the Rev. G A Wroe, Vicar of St. Chad’s Church, Stafford and a friend of the family. The Godparents were Mrs Clive Powell, of Herefordshire, Miss Diedre Heber-Percy, a niece of Lord Shrewsbury, Dr T Kemp Homer, of London, Mr N Libin, of Birmingham and Mr Anthony Lowther, personal secretary to the earl.
On the short walk to and from Ingestre Hall, Paul was carried by his nanny Miss L Jones and Miss J Phillips, knowns as “Nannikins”, who was nanny to Lady Shrewsbury. Friends of the family from all parts of the Midlands were present at the service which was followed by a private tea party at Ingestre Hall. A colourful touch was added to the occasion by the costumes of scarlet velvet with lace cuffs and collars worn by Viscount Ingestre, the five year old heir to the title and Lady Marguerite Chetwynd-Talbot, his eight year old sister.
