Description:Mr W T Richardson, wearing a characteristic buttonhole, presents the shield bearing his name, to Mr W Plant, Captain of the Doxey team, who were the Stafford Whist League champions. Others in the group left to right are: Unknown, Mr A F Hanson, Mr W Horsenail, Mr W Kemsley Captain of Dorman’s runners up team, Mr K Wagg, Mrs W T Dale, Mr H Pawley, Mr E J Willshaw and Unknown.

The Doxey team, champions of the Whist League, were the host when the league held their annual presentation of awards, combined with a social evening at the Doxey Institute. The merit prize for the player gaining the most wins was won by a member of the Dorman’s team, Mr B Haywood. Members of Doxey’s winning team were Messrs. W Plant (Captain), G Low, F Rigby, G Perkins, H Badger, A Bradley, J Eley, H Chambers, W Powell, F Wilshaw, J S Hammond, H Farwell and H N Lewis.

Doxey Institute stood on the Crescent. It was later replaced by a housing development.
