Description:Alderman H J Bostock, President of the Stafford branch of the National Book League, gives a welcoming handshake to Canon J E W Wallis, canon and librarian at Lichfield Cathedral, (deputising for the Bishop of Lichfield, Dr E S Woods), who addressed the branch on “Talkers and Talking”, at Stafford Library on Monday 31 March. Looking on are Mrs B Wilson (Branch Chairman) and Mr C E Dunning (Secretary).

After his talk Canon Wallis invited members to form a discussion panel to see what they could make of “Conversation”. Those on the panel were: Canon Wallis, Mr H J Bostock (President of the Branch), Mrs B Wilson (Branch Chairman), Miss L Whitehurst (Headmistress of Stafford Girls High School), Mr A Field (retired English Master at the King Edward VI Grammar School) and Miss A H Stonehouse (Headmistress of Uttoxeter Girls Secondary Modern School).
