Description:These thatched cottages are thought to have been about half-way up Coalpit Lane on the right (north) side of the road.
They belonged to the Earl of Shrewsbury, Brereton's Lord of the Manor and owner of the coal rights in the area. They were destroyed after severe fire damage, which occurred in February 1905. Notice the two children in the foreground near the fencing and the woman standing in entrance to the first building.
