Description:On the left is 15 year-old Muriel Dodd, one of the members of the 15th Stafford Girl Guides who volunteered to clean Rowley Street Methodist Schoolroom following its redecoration. Please contact us if you recognise anyone else in the photograph.

The schoolroom had been renovated and painted in bright shades of cream and green, which transformed the room, however, the wooden floor was grimy and the furniture was badly in need of a polish. Pastor J Maslen discussed the matter with the Girl Guides and their Captain, Miss G Wall, who told the Newsletter that they used the room every week for their meetings and they felt they should do something to help. The Guides expressed their willingness to “do a good turn” and clean-up the premises. Members of the Boys Club moved the furniture out of the way and volunteers from the Guide Troop arrived with mother’s aprons, brooms, buckets and scrubbing brushes, they rolled their sleeves up, formed teams of “Chars” and set about their task.
