Description:This postcard view shows ‘The Old Cottage’, a 15th century Grade II listed building which stands on the junction of Bellbrook and Market Place. On the left of the cottage (east side) an oriel window can be seen which was later blocked off.

The cottage is thought to have been the former Judges House where prisoners were tried from the old Gaol which is directly across the road. On the right of the picture there is a glimpse of the 19th century Old Gaol which was the village lock-up with two cells and wooden stocks. It was carefully restored by Penkridge Civic Society in the late 1990s and opened as Penkridge Heritage Centre on 31 July 2000.

This postcard was published by A.W. Bourne, 32 Babingley Drive, Leicester.
