Description:Son of a coal miner, born in Madeley, Shropshire in 1873. A Baptist Church preacher, President of Chadsmoor Sunday-morning Adult School and Principal of Cannock Grammar School.

As Principal, he advertised the re-opening of Cannock Grammar School in 1909 on 'The American Higher School' principle. Later, in 1912 he operated a school from Belgrave House, Cannock. At some time he ran a small private international boarding school.
