Description:The ancient (late 16th - early 17th century) timber-framed White Lion coaching inn was located on the corner of Sheepfair and Lion Street (which it pre-dated). It stood empty for many years and it is thought it was finally used for housing, including incorporating a blacksmith’s forge, before being demolished in 1967. It is said that jockeys riding at Etchinghill races were weighed there. The brewery of the Vine Inn can be seen in the background.
