Description:HRH Prince of Wales, later King Edward VIII, pictured by the War Memorial in Burton upon Trent during his visit to the town in July 1929. He was visiting the town as part of its Jubilee celebrations. He arrived at Bass's Meadow by aeroplane and was driven to the Town Hall, where he inspected a guard honour and accepted an address of welcome from the Mayor. He then visited Bass’s breweries, the War Memorial at Peel Croft, Branston Artificial Silk Factory, the Pirelli Motor Tyre Factory, and the India Rubber Company’s Silvertown works.
Here, he is seen with the guard of honour made up of some of the town's First World War veterans and is talking to John James Camp who had served with the British army in Rawalpindi, then in India, now in Pakistan. Also in this group of veterans is Lance Corporal William Henry 'Bill' Coltman, VC who is standing second from the top of the right hand line of men.
