Description:Hawkesyard Priory near Armitage, built to the designs of E. Goldie in 1896-1914, in the Gothic perpendicular style, is on the left. The College, housed in the older Hawkesyard Hall is on the right. The College was what was known as a 'General House of Studies' where Degrees in Theology and Philosophy were given to ecclesiastical students. At Hawkesyard three years of philosophical studies were followed by four years of theological studies at Blackfriars, Oxford at which point the degree was conferred (information from 'Hawkesyard Priory' booklet,1938).
