Date:1905

Description:This 'bird's eye' (aerial) postcard scene was sent on quite a long journey, from Lichfield to Chile, South America. The view looks south-east over Lichfield towards St. Mary’s Church in Market Square. The picture was probably taken from the roof of the nearby Cathedral. On the lower left is Dam Street leading towards Market Street. Minster Pool Walk runs from left to right from the junction with Dam Street. The building in the lower centre view on Minster Pool Walk has been demolished, although the white painted building on the lower right with twin gables remains (September 2020).

This postcard was posted and franked in Lichfield on 21 December 1905 and sent to an address in Chile, South America. It was franked on arrival at Valparaiso on 24 January 1906 and then franked again on 2 February 1906 when it arrived at its destination in Iquique, Chile.
