Description:This 'Lichfield Pictorial Postcard' picture was taken looking along the Close towards the west front of Lichfield Cathedral from the junction with Beacon Street and Bird Street.
This early postcard dates from the last few years of the 19th century. Due to the Postal Regulations at the time it was only possible to write a message on the photograph side of the postcard; in this case in the white space on the right of the picture. The reverse of the card was only for the address. During late 1902 the Postal Regulations changed and it became possible to write a message on the same side of the card as the address.
This postcard was franked in Lichfield on 1 September 1899 and sent to an address in Nottingham.
