Description:Learie Constantine pictured on the occasion of his visit to Kidsgrove in May 1948. He had been invited to a meeting at the Town Hall by Kidsgrove Labour Party to speak about racial discrimination.

Learie Nicholas Constantine (1901-1971) was born in Trinidad and Tobago and was a West Indies cricketer. He was a fast bowler, attacking batsman and a fine fielder who played 18 tests for the West Indies. He lived for many years in Nelson, Lancashire, where he was professional for the town's cricket club. After retiring from cricket he became Minister of Communication for Trinidad & Tobago, and was High Commissioner to London 1962-1964. In 1969 he was awarded a life peerage.
