Born in Lincolnshire in 1864, Frederick Arthur Hey was apprenticed to a grocer in Horncastle, Lincolnshire by 1881. By 1891 he was a manager in a grocery shop in Romford, Essex. By the 1901 census he was living at 17, Westwood Road, Leek 1901 with his family and domestic servants. He was married in 1894 at Leicester and his oldest child was born in Leek in 1895. His employment is listed as an employing grocery and provisions shopkeeper. He died aged 100 in nursing Home in Oakham, Rutland, his residence at the time being Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.
