Description:S.J. Gilbert & Co.'s general and fancy drapers shop at 57 High Street, Stone. Samuel Gilbert (1858-1937) lived above the shop with his family. The business opened around 1900 as Hart, Gilbert and Robertson. Gilbert's also acted as milliners, tailors, mantle makers, house furnishers and undertakers. They had a second shop at 35 and 37 High Street. This building at 57 High Street were demolished around 1930 and replaced by the Midland Bank, which since 2018 has been Bear bistro.
