Description:This photograph of Henrietta Bullock was taken on the step of 30, Stoke Old Road, Hartshill, Stoke-on-Trent. The house has since been demolished.

Henrietta Perry was born on 10th January 1857 at Russell Street, Shelton, Stoke on Trent. Her parents, Samuel and Emma had recently "emigrated" from Shifnal in Shropshire and Samuel became a puddler at Shelton steelworks. Henrietta was one of eleven children, only four of whom reached the age of twenty. Three of her siblings - Sampson, Salome and William - died in the same week (two on the same day) of autumn 1871 from scarlet fever at their home in Brickkiln Lane, Basford.

In 1877 she married George Bullock and they lived at 30, Stoke Old Road for most of their married life, having thirteen children. George was killed at Shelton Bar in 1928 when he was run over by a shunting train. At the time he was still working as a plate layer at the age of 74. The extended Bullock family lived in Stoke Old Road from the eighteenth century until the 1960s, mainly working in the brick and tile industry.

In 1917 Henrietta was fined 13 shillings at Stoke Police Court for showing a light during the First World War blackout regulations. It was said that after the sinking of the "Titanic" she never again ate fish! She died at 30, Stoke Old Road on 3rd November 1937 aged 80 years.
