Description:This postcard shows a group of men on the Common Plot, Stone, some of whom are wearing cricket whites and spikes. This group appears to include convalescing soldiers as one man is in Army uniform and others are wearing "Hospital Blues". They may have been from the Red Cross Hospital then occupying St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Hall on Station Road.
On the reverse of this postcard is written “Sincerely yours, Jack Cade, 6 Berkeley Terrace, Stone, Staffs”. This is probably John Sherratt Cade, born in Stone in 1894, who in 1911 was living with his parents and siblings at 6 Berkeley Terrace. At the time he was a farm student. By 1939 he was living with his wife and daughter at 63 Oulton Road and was employed as a finisher in one of Stone's boot and shoe making factories. Is he in this photograph?
