Description:A multi-view postcard advertising the former Hand and Cleaver Inn at Ranton. On the reverse there is a map with directions to the Inn. At the time this postcard was published the proprietors were Mr and Mrs J A Hazledine.

It was reported in the Express and Star newspaper on 29 August 2013 that the Hand and Cleaver Inn closed around 2010 and later a planning application had been made to redevelop the site into three private houses. It was also mentioned that the Inn had been well known for serving Shropshire gold ale, the rock star Ozzy Osbourne had been one of its customers and at one time the Inn had been included in the Michelin’s annual eating out pub guide.

Ozzy Osbourne had lived near the Inn at Bullrush Cottage in Ranton Green. He rose to fame in the 1970s as lead vocalist of the heavy metal band Black Sabbath.
