Description:A postcard view of Brocton Camp showing the undulating terrain of the north-eastern slopes of Old Acre Valley with “J” Battalion Line in the far distance on Tar Hill, above Brocton Village. The other Battalion Lines between are lower and therefore out of view. On the right are the lower ranks' huts on their typical brick support columns and on the left are the Officer’s huts.

In order to differentiate between the two Camps (Brocton Camp and Rugeley Camp) on Cannock Chase and no doubt make it easier for mail distribution from family and or friends, Brocton’s 20 Battalion Lines were alphabetically from A-T whilst Rugeley Camps were numbered 1-20. With approximately 20,000 men in each Camp it would have made it much easier to locate each soldier as the address would have been Battalion Line and individual Hut number.

The writing on the front of this postcard is misleading as to its true location but on checking a detailed map of the Camp it shows the photograph can only have be taken from “O” Battalion Line.
