Description:The American Red Cross in Upper Market Square, Hanley pictured during World War II. In the late 1950s this building was the National Insurance Office, then later Cantor's furniture store. Today (2019) it is the Halifax bank. To the right can be seen Droy's biscuit shop.
This image is from the 'Yarnfield Yank', a booklet published in 1945 to commemorate the presence of US Army personnel at transit camps in Yarnfield, near Stone during World War II.
