Description:A postcard view of a winter scene taken at sunrise looking towards Rugeley Power Stations. The picture was taken from the canal bridge over the Trent and Mersey Canal on Station Road in Rugeley which is close to St. Augustine’s Church. On the right by the narrowboat there is a landing stage and football goal posts in the distance, this area was near to the local Sea Scouts meeting hut.

Building work on the Rugeley 'A' Power Station began in 1956 on a site adjacent to the River Trent. It was opened in 1963 on the site of Boothurst House for the Central Electricity Generating Board.

The power station shared the site with Lea Hall Colliery, which supplied coal directly to the power station via a conveyer. Lea Hall Colliery closed in 1990 and five years later Rugeley 'A' Power Station also closed.

Construction of Rugeley's 'B' 1000MW Power Station began in 1965 and was completed in 1972. This power station closed in June 2016. The four large cooling towers of Rugeley 'B' are still a prominent local landmark and were ground-breaking in their design when built. The site is currently (2020) being demolished.

This photograph was taken by Tony Evans ABIPP (Associateship, British Institute of Professional Photographers).
