Description:A long period of rainy weather resulted in the River Sow rising to its highest level ever recorded, flooding the railway station and stopping all traffic. At the junction of Newport Road and Bridge Street the water was two feet deep. Cottage dwellers had to be rescued by boat and one house was washed away.
