Description:Miss Carol West is pictured at the GPO (General Post Office) Telephone Exchange in Stone where she worked as a telephonist. The exchange was located above the Post Office in Granville Square. The Stone exchange closed in 1976 when the area went over to STD (Subscribed Trunk Dialling). Many of the telephonists were transferred to the Stafford telephone exchange in Eastgate Street. In later years the exchange and post office became The Poste of Stone public house.

This photograph was published in the Stone Guardian on Saturday 11 December 1954.
