Description:Councillor Arthur Swanwick and Mr M C Downing, Clerk to Stone Urban District Council are pictured with several of the 80 entrants who took part in a Cycling Proficiency Test in Stone on Saturday 12 October 1957.

Councillor Swanwick stressed the importance of the tests saying that a bad machine was no use to a good rider and vice-versa. Police Sergeant T H Potts, Traffic Officer for the Stone Police Division said that the object of the tests was to reduce the number of road accidents.
