Date:10th of November 1918

Description:During the First World War Police Officer numbers gradually reduced as former servicemen were recalled and others enlisted.
Local men volunteered to become Special Constables to fill the shortfall.
Most of the men would have already had a full-time job, or would have been retired.
William Wilshaw was a full-time baker, he can be seen on this photograph on the second row, fifth from the left.

Chief Constable William Forster sits with the special police on the front row from the front, seventh from the right wearing a police helmet.

What is particularly significant about this photograph is the fact that it was taken the day before the armistice.
Did they know that peace was coming and a photograph taken, or is it just a coincidence?
