Date:June 1964

Description:The camera is looking in a northerly direction along Barthomley Road from the corner of Acton Street. In the distance is a spoil tip belonging to the Shelton Collieries. Coming in on the left is Burnley Street and right at the bottom, out of sight, is the junction with Hanley Road.

Until the 1950s renaming of streets, Barthomley Street was Hamilton Road. Houses in this area were built in the early 1900s. The spoil tip has been landscaped and now forms part of the Central Forest Park.
