Description:Bromley Davenport was born in 1862. His family owned Capesthorne Hall near Macclesfield. Between 1886-1906 he was M.P. for Macclesfield and a Member of the Cabinet.
In 1910 he had become Colonel Davenport D.S.O. and stood as the local Conservative candidate in the second General Election against Mr Robert Pearce in 1910. According to the report in the Leek Post, the turnout of voters was extremely high at about 90 %, and much more impressive than modern election voting statistics. There was much excitement on polling day especially in the evening leading up to the announcement of the result on the Friday morning. The outcome was disappointing for Colonel Davenport who lost the election by about three hundred votes.
