Description:This was the view eastwards from Rookery Lane towards the Staffordshire Collieries and Iron works in Sideway. Alongside are the spoil tips of the coal and iron works. This is now the site of the Bet 365 (Britannia Stadium), the waste incinerator and the neighbouring commercial estate. Beyond that is the Kemball pit of the same company.
On the extreme left is the edge of the Michelin Tyre Company factory, with the wall and street lamps on Campbell Road just visible. The open ground (and rugby pitch) in the middle of the photograph is now the site of large distribution warehouses and the line of the A500 (Queensway). On the embankment just beyond the open fields is the main railway line and on the other side of that, the Trent & Mersey Canal.
