Description:The Ministry of Pensions was concerned specifically with the accommodation of military pensioners of the two World Wars and from pre-1914 conflicts in hospitals and other institutions in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The sign at the gate means that this image was taken after the Great War had ended.
The hospital was in existence from 1916-1924 when a local colliery took over most of the buildings and converted them into dwellings for the miners' families. It continued as Brindley Village until 1954 when the families were relocated close to Hednesford, but the school stayed open for a few more years until the last children were old enough to move to upper schools locally. You can still find evidence of some of the hut bases to this day.
